I have a shortcut on a network drive that launces a program while setting the run directory to my network directory. The program resides on a local drive. The DX object "shortcut" can pick the shortcut but then just defines the shortcut to the program on the local drive (setting the run directory to the local drive). I need the DX shortcut to set the run drive to the network, can I do this in the arguements box somehow?

Kodak sued Sun over a patent it holds for 'a method by which a program can "ask for help" from another application to carry out certain computer-oriented functions.' Now Sun has settled and will cross-license IP with Kodak. It seems a lot of developers are scratching their head over this one. Methods have existed for programs to communicate and share data to "help" each other for years before this patent existed. Not only vague and nebulous, prior art throws the validity of this patent ...

1 - there are a lot of spanner wrenches on Mars. every zombie has one and is trying to wrap it around your skull. oh, and you can't pick it up when he is done. 2 - space marines outnumber techies and scientists about 600 to 1. some research station, unless the experiements were carried out on the space marines..... 3 - there are more hidden closets and cubbie holes than Michael Jackson's mansion. 4 - don't touch anything, need that armor? don't touch it because the baddies will...

One day while driving the route first introduced in this blog: http://fugmulch.joeuser.com/index.asp?AID=10989 I approached the second town center, the busier of the two. The traffic was backed up worse than usual. It was standstill for about a mile before the center, and about ½ mile before it usually gets crazy. Things were moving very slow, very slow. It took me at least 15-20 minutes to move into the town center, to finally see what the delay was. In the center of one intersecti...

I wish this was a rare occurrence, but it is not. The road I travel to work is a 2-lane road running through 2 town centers. It winds its way through woods, small farms (horse mostly), and neighborhoods. The speed limit varies from 25-45, and would be a pleasant drive if it weren't for the idiots that drive it. Weekday mornings and afternoons, this road carries a good amount of traffic. Especially around school opening and closing times (6 schools on the route). Traffic never moves "fa...

Vrrrooooommmm, mimics Johny as he buttshis toy car into the wall. A shower of small white chips cascade tothe floor. Ever curious hands pick up a chip and begin theinvestigation. “Smells O.K., not like Dad after coming home fromwork. Looks like those things he eats with his beer when he watchesTV” thinks Johnny. A tentative taste yields no hard evidence. More datais required as Johny deposits a large chip into his mouthand begins chewing. “Not bad!” Mom slides into the room and givesJohny an ...

I do not believe you will find many whowould pan Mr. Jackson's handling of the “Lord of the Rings”trilogy. I for one find them to be amazing. However, I wonder whatlies ahead, and ultimately how Peter Jackson will be remembered in 50or 100 years time. Look at Orson Wells. Citizen Kaneoften cited as one of the best ever made. Touch of Evil (despite thestrange casting of Charlton Heston) also a classic. What other OWmovies can you name, right this instant? CK 1941, ToE 1958, w...

First, let me say, I have been generally happy with Windows 2000 and XP, after years of dissapointment. Second, let me also confess that I was an OS/2 junkie for a long time. Now let me say, I am not at all enamoured with Microsoft Office, and I was royally pissed when Microsoft bought Visio and turned it into bloatware. I no longer use Microsoft Office, at least not at home where I ahve control over my choices. I use Open Office (www.openoffice.org). Not a perfect piece of software, bu...

As some may know, Mass is in the throws of the debate over gay marriage. Mass State Supreme Court says legalize it, Mass congress is debating the issue as well as using civil unions, the Mass Attorney General wants civil union, religious groups want all homosexuals to go away forever, etc. The list is endless. Well, I think we should up the ante and take this federal. Why let the states muck around willy-nilly when good ol Uncle Sam can step in. Gay marriage detracts from the institutio...
